Financial Year Dates
Algeria’s financial year runs from January 1st to December 31st.
Minimum Wage
The minimum wage in Algeria is 20,000 DZD per month, based on a 40-hour workweek.
Standard working hours
The standard workweek in Algeria is typically 40 hours, generally divided into five 8-hour workdays. Business hours are typically from 8 AM to 5 PM, although some companies may offer flexible working hours, especially in industries like IT and consulting.
Overtime
Overtime in Algeria is compensated at a rate of 1.5 times the employee’s regular hourly wage. Overtime is generally limited to 2 hours per day and a maximum of 30 hours per month. Any overtime beyond this is subject to specific agreements in the employment contract.
Holiday Allowance
Employees in Algeria are entitled to a minimum of 30 working days of paid annual leave. Public holidays are in addition to this entitlement. Additional leave may be granted based on sector-specific agreements or the employment contract.
Sick Leave
Algerian employees are entitled to sick leave, which is paid by the social insurance fund. For the first 3 days of illness, employees are entitled to 50% of their salary, and from the 4th day onward, 100% of the salary is covered. Sick leave can extend to 6 months depending on the severity of the illness.
Maternity & Paternity Leave
Maternity leave in Algeria is set at 14 weeks, with full pay during this period.
Paternity leave is 3 days, paid at the father’s regular wage.
