Financial Year Dates
Poland’s financial year runs from January 1st to December 31st.
Minimum Wage
As of January 1, 2025, the gross minimum wage in Poland is PLN 4,666 per month
Standard working hours
The standard workweek in Poland is 40 hours, usually five 8-hour workdays. Business hours are typically 9 AM – 5 PM, with flexible arrangements in certain sectors
Overtime
Under Polish labor law, employees are entitled to extra compensation for overtime work:
- 50% extra pay: Overtime work on regular workdays (including Sundays and public holidays that are regular workdays).
- 100% extra pay: Overtime at night, on Sundays or public holidays that are not regular workdays, or where weekly hours exceed the standard 40-hour workweek
Holiday Allowance
Employees in Poland are entitled to 20 to 26 days of paid annual leave, depending on years of service. Public holidays are additional to this leave.
Sick Leave
Employees in Poland are entitled to sick leave paid by the employer for the first 33 days (or 14 days if over 50 years old) at 80% of their salary, after which the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) provides sickness benefits at 80% or 100%, depending on the illness.
Maternity & Paternity Leave
- Maternity leave: 20 weeks for the first and second child, 31 weeks for the third, 33 weeks for fourth and subsequent children; paid at 100% or 80% of salary depending on type of leave.
- Paternity leave: 2 weeks, paid at 100% of salary.
- Parental leave: Up to 41 weeks can be shared between parents, partially paid.

- Social Security (pension, disability, etc.): 13.71%
- Health insurance: 9% (partially deductible from tax)
Income Tax
Personal income tax (PIT) is progressive:
- 12% on income up to 120,000 PLN
- 32% on income above 120,000 PLN
- Residents are taxed on worldwide income; non-residents are taxed on Polish-source income only.
Health Care
Poland provides universal healthcare via the National Health Fund (NFZ), funded by payroll contributions. While public healthcare is available, many expats and professionals opt for private health insurance for faster access and higher-quality care. Employers must contribute to social health insurance.

- Work Visa: Required for non-EU nationals, sponsored by an employer.
- Business Visa: For entrepreneurs or investors establishing a company in Poland.
- Temporary Residence Visa: Valid up to 3 years; can lead to permanent residency.
Family Reunification Visa: Allows family members to join employees legally working in Poland.
13th salary?
